For anyone who loves good wine and expertly crafted food and dessert, Northeast Denver’s D Bar Desserts stands out. Owned by Food Network star, Keegan Gerhard and wife Lisa Bailey, D Bar Desserts offers a dining experience that aims to rekindle nostalgic food memories. d bar received four of five stars from Yelp, Urbanspoon and Trip Advisor and the unique café is listed as one of Gayot.com’s Hot Denver Colorado Restaurants for 2011. According to the Westword, d bar’s “vigorous attention to detail, top-notch ingredients and an abstract artist’s eye for plating” sets it apart. While everything that master pastry chef Gerhard produces is skillfully crafted and presented, the molten chocolate cake, vanilla bean crème brulee and waffle and cherry compote ice cream sandwich topped with an amaretto whipped cream keep a steady stream of sugar lovers walking in the door. The menu ranges from traditional, such as the baked-to-order cookies and milk to the creative, being the booz-flay! with a grand marnier soufflé, passion fruit beignets and a passion-mango sherbet. While confections are the highlight of d bar, there is an full kitchen that turns out simple fare like b.l.t on brichoe, crue fries with garlic parmesan fries served with a mac sauce, bacon, and melted cheddar jack and the donut tartar with kobe tartar, tomatillo jam and bomolini. During the day, d bar is a casual pastry shop but at night, it transforms into a trendy, upscale dessert and wine bar with soft lighting, modern fixtures and elegant plating. The plated dessert menu begins at 5pm and in addition to the sweets, an extensive list of high-end coffee, wine and beers are served. Most of the wines, aside from the dessert wines, are offered in 3 oz and 6 oz servings. No reservations. Take-out service. Free wifi. Outdoor seating.
